NJC and Single Status Pay Award

Update on the NJC and Single Status pay awards for 2019/20.

As you may be aware, following lengthy negotiations between the National Employers and Trade Unions (GMB, Unison and Unite), agreement was reached last year on the NJC Pay Award for 2018 - 2020. The award is complex and covers a two year period from 1 April 2018 until 31 March 2020. The agreed national award was in relation to the National NJC pay spine and has therefore been ‘mapped’ across to our local East Sussex County Council Single Status salary scale.

For 2019/20, the NJC pay award agreement included the removal of a number of spinal points. In considering how this relates to our local East Sussex Single Status pay scales, to ensure parity, the following spinal points will be removed from 1st April 2019: scp 3, 5, 6, 8, 11 and 17. Where an individual is on a spinal point that has been deleted from 1 April 2019, they will automatically go to the next spinal point from this date.

In headline terms, from 1 April 2019, the award provides for ‘bottom loading’ on the national pay spine which, when applied to the local East Sussex Single Status pay scales, provides a percentage increase of between 6.5% to 3.12% on Single Status spinal column points 2 to 16. For Single Status spinal column points 18 and above, a flat rate increase of 2% is applied. This results in a new bottom rate of £9.00 per hour (scp 2). Please use the link below to access the updated salary scales.

The pay award will be implemented from 1 April 2019.
