New SEMH Special School Proposed for Hailsham

Applications are being sought under the free school presumption for a new special school for pupils with a primary need of SEMH but who also have associated needs, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

East Sussex County Council has identified the need for a new special school for pupils with a primary need of SEMH but who also have associated needs, particularly ASD.  The school would provide 80 places across the primary and secondary phases and be located on land off Reef Way in Hailsham (BN27 1FB).  The new school is to be established under the free school presumption and applications are welcomed from interested sponsors.

The new school specification, application form and criteria are available on the Council's website.

The closing date for applications is noon on 12 November 2018.

Following the Council's assessment of the applications, the Regional Schools Commissioner, on behalf of the Secretary of State, will decide which proposer is in the best position to establish the new school.
