Open Doors workplace visits for students in Years 7-13 in November 2018

Open Doors aims to provide students in Years 7-13 with the opportunity to visit the work place of multiple businesses in East Sussex.

Schools are invited to register for Open Doors 2018, which is taking place throughout this coming November.

Open Doors gives students from Year 7 to Year 13 the chance to visit employers in East Sussex, learn about the work that takes place, the different careers on offer and find out how they can work in those roles in the future. Recent research suggests that employer encounters raise attainment, aspiration and reduce the chances of young people not progressing to further education, employment or training.

There are over 50 employers taking part this year, offering a variety of unique work place visits, including: Rampion offshore wind farm, EDF nuclear power plant, art galleries, engineering businesses, construction sites, digital SMEs, professional services, public sector, hotels, agricultural settings, the NHS and the offices of MPs. Open Doors showcases the vast number of roles in each workplace and provides students with the opportunity to learn about the labour market, have meaningful encounters with employers and an insight into the world of work, supporting schools to achieve the ‘Gatsby Benchmarks of good careers guidance’.

If you would like your school to take part, email and you will receive a School Booking Guide. The Guide contains information on the booking process, guidance for undertaking visits and a list of all the employers who are hosting Open Doors visits. Your school will be able to start making bookings for students from 17th September.

We are keen to ensure that as many young people as possible can take part in the project. If there are any barriers to your school taking part, we will do our best to support you to overcome these. If you have any questions or queries, please contact or call Kimberley Bulgin at 01273 335 625.
