Time:          9.30am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Course Overview

This is an extended half day workshop targeted at those with responsibility for the School Census who have not previously carried out the School Census routine, who would prefer to see a complete run through the census procedures, or who are relatively new to managing pupils in SIMS.

All Schools need to submit a School Census return to the DFE three times a year (October, January and May) using SIMS.

This course uses your schools own live data

We remotely access (via CentraStage) your own school server and work on your schools live data, which removes the need to repeat the work back at school.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the current requirements for data collection in this round
  • Create the Census return and run the ‘create and validate’ routine
  • Maintain and prepare relevant data areas in SIMS
  • Address and correct the errors generated
  • Run the Detail and Summary reports
  • Understand how to upload a return to COLLECT

Course Preparation for IT11 or IT12 schools only

Please inform your ICT Technician of the date and session you are booked on to ensure your exclusive use of your schools Server on the day. We will contact you/them to test CentraStage access approximately a week prior to the course. Delegates will take full responsibility for changes made to their own data during the course.

Course Requirements

A basic working knowledge of the student database is essential in order to resolve issues reported by the census routine. Schools are advised to send the appropriate person(s). To reserve a place on this course please complete and send the SIMS Training form to simstraining@eastsussex.gov.uk. The booking form can be found on Czone.
